Our Work, Code of Ethics, and Organizational Standards
The North American branch of the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI North America) is a public, non-profit scientific foundation that advances the understanding and application of science related to the nutritional quality and safety of the food supply and to health issues related to consumer healthcare products.
Through programs that are of mutual interest to academia, government, and industry, ILSI North America helps resolve scientific issues for the benefit of the general public.
The scientific process requires open, transparent examination and honest interpretation of data. ILSI North America is committed to such a process and requires that scientists who work with us disclose any potential conflicts of interest. ILSI North America is committed to academic freedom and encourages publication of all research results, regardless of outcome.
Our commitment to transparency extends to ILSI North America-sponsored meetings and publications. ILSI North America publications undergo stringent peer-review by qualified experts prior to publication. Sources of funding for meetings and publications are disclosed.
Over the course of the past year, the Working Group on Guiding Principles has reviewed and developed language to reinforce the strength of the organization’s existing code of ethics and conflict of interest statements. Their work has resulted in the ILSI North America Policy on Conflict of Interest, approved in April 2008 by the ILSI North America Board of Trustees Executive Committee.
